1) Water 

Water is one of the most important skincare essentials. It keeps the skin looking and feeling healthy. Drinking plenty of water is important for your skin and all the other organs in your body. When you drink plenty of water, it helps keep your body's pH levels balanced, which will prevent acne breakouts. Plus, when you drink a lot of water, it will help flush out toxins from your system through urine and sweat. 

Water is also an essential part of any skincare routine because it helps to cleanse and tone the skin by removing excess oils or dirt that may have accumulated during the day. 

  

2) Sunscreen 

Many people fail to remember sunscreen. This is the number one item that dermatologists say most people miss. The best way to avoid skin cancer is with good sun protection. Apply sunscreen every day and reapply it as often as necessary, especially after being in the water or getting sweaty or after you've been out in the sun for an extended period of time. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a broad-spectrum (protects against both UVA and UVB) sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher year-round, even on cloudy days and when spending time outdoors for just a few minutes. 

Sunscreen should be applied 15 minutes before heading outside so that it has time to be absorbed into your skin and provide protection. 

  

3) Don’t forget your neck 

Many people neglect their neck when they think about skincare. When you get facials, your esthetician will usually tell you to slather on the moisturizer and apply sunscreen to your neck as well. Necklines are more visible than they used to be thanks to tank tops and spaghetti straps, so it's worth taking care of that area, too. You're just not going to see any results if you don't take care of this often-overlooked body part. 

  

4) Sleep 

Getting a good night's sleep is one of the best things you can do for your skin! When you sleep, your body repairs itself and produces natural oils to keep your skin moisturized. If you're not sleeping enough, those natural oils can get depleted and your skin will look dry, flaky, or blotchy. Lack of sleep also increases our risk for depression and anxiety - so it's important not only for your skincare routine but also for general health!
